Why are you Painting?

Most people think of painting to make things look fresh and new.

A bright color livens up a room while a neutral color is more acceptable to potential home buyers. Paint can hide repairs or worn spots. A mix of colors or finishes adds interest to a bare room.

Consider how the painted surface will be used. A kitchen might need washable paint but a ceiling paint just disguises dust.  Painted steps need traction added, especially when wet.

Paint provides a barrier to protect and preserve. Often paint protects materials from wear, weather, or water. Sometimes it seals away unpleasant things underneath like stains, odors, or lead. Understand the job your paint does to choose the right kind of paint.

To work well, the paint needs to stick well to a clean, solid surface and survive the conditions you subject it to. Intense repair or surface preparation may be needed before painting.

Sometimes painting isn’t the right solution for the best result. Rotted wooden brick mold around a door is often better replaced with vinyl for long lasting protection. Specialty finishes like epoxy or cement create work surfaces for counters or other tough conditions.

What Painting does Intentional Visions do?

I have painted some intricate trim work inside and outside. Painting 3 colors on 6 panel doors did add depth and interest. And I kept the paint off screens of a screen porch and off glass while painting trim of a sixteen pane window.

Intentional Visions, LLC paints walls, ceilings, and other wide open surfaces too. Besides room surfaces, I paint furniture, play equipment, mailboxes, and other odd jobs.

As a handyman I repair things that then need painting. I work to match the surrounding textures and paint colors, though sometimes the entire wall or room gets done to disguise a repair.

How Much Painting Will Intentional Visions do?

As a one person Handyman service, larger projects take more calendar time. Scheduling around weather and other commitments also is harder. In the warm seasons I may prioritize outside projects before inside painting that can be done in the colder seasons.

Because one person works slower than a large crew, I might do only one or two entire house exterior painting projects a season. See the “Brook House” in the Gallery Blog. Using a brush and roller, I did a few hundred feet of picket fence across a few weeks of good weather.

I will do small painting jobs for businesses. When a single office needs touching up or a renter moves out, ask for a fresh layer of paint.
